Videos

A lot have asked me to do a comparison video between Yi dashcam and Mijia dashcam

Yi Dashcam 1080p 60fps vs Mijia Dashcam 1080p 30fps – Day & Night

The Mijia dashcam looks clearer in the video but the video is darker. The Yi dashcam can see more details in darker areas (Hopefully Mi can fix this in a future firmware?)

Xiaomi Mijia Dashcam vs 360 J511C Dashcam

Notes: The video resolution is fixed at 1920×1080 30fps. Also, the video interval is fixed at 2 minutes. There is no option to change this.

adam watling · March 30, 2017 at 12:09 am

Having trouble getting mine to format and use a 64gb micro sd card, the 32gb i have works perfectly maybe its just a firmware glitch.

    Jeremy Wong · March 30, 2017 at 10:50 am

Do you have another 64GB to test and see? No issues using my Samsung Evo Plus 64GB with the Mijia dashcam.

adam watling · March 30, 2017 at 11:26 pm

Hi, which korean dash cam would you recommend for front and back footage ?

Thanks.

    Jeremy Wong · August 23, 2017 at 10:36 am

There are so many good dual Korean dashcams out there… My favorite is from ThinkWare, BlackVue, iRoad, etc…

Peter Teh · April 22, 2017 at 1:28 am

How to update firmware from1.0.6 to 1.0.8?

    Jeremy Wong · April 22, 2017 at 5:58 am

    Update using the MiHome app…

    adam watling · April 22, 2017 at 6:43 am

Yeah use the mi home app it may take several tries i found as the 1.06 firmware likes to drop the wifi connection and time. Oh and ensure your locale is set as mainland china any other location didnt work for me.

kennethv · May 13, 2017 at 11:10 pm

do you have a shop in kl?

    Jeremy Wong · May 13, 2017 at 11:16 pm

I just review the gadgets. You can click on the links to purchase the Mijia dashcam from GearBest…

tdivw · May 20, 2017 at 7:16 pm

Hi ! Thanks for the translation of the menus and for the videos you made, i have decided to buy the mijia. Keep up the good work !

Mijagi · June 3, 2017 at 5:03 am

Hi. Just bought this dash cam. so far happy. Can someone tell me whats the difference between 1.0.8 and 1.0.9?

BK · August 23, 2017 at 10:30 am

Hi Jeremy,

Is it safe to park the car under the sun? I’m afraid if the built in battery will expand, crack or explode due to high temperature.

    Jeremy Wong · August 23, 2017 at 10:35 am

If you’re staying in a country with summer all year round like me in Malaysia. Best to consider getting a capacitor based dashcam. I’ve only encountered a few times the lithium battery in the dashcam unable to charge after using about 1 year+ and never taken down from the car.

Nath · September 3, 2017 at 8:34 am

Jr · November 15, 2017 at 11:44 am

How the hell do i change it to english and why would u sell it to english speaking people if u have it in chinese but advertisement is in english ???????

    Jeremy Wong · November 15, 2017 at 11:55 am

    I don’t sell. I just review them.

I’m also English educated like you and able to use without any issues.

I have translated the menu to English in the review and hope that would help. Also, the Mi Dash Cam app is in English.

Most dashcams is set and forget.

Robert · November 16, 2017 at 12:46 pm

Hello Jeremy. Could you please explain:
1) How to activate the parking monitoring feature that this dashcam is supposed to have?
2) What or where is the setting that needs to be set to “China mainland” for the WIFi to work.
Thank you

    Jeremy Wong · November 16, 2017 at 1:06 pm

    Hi Robert.
    1) There’s no parking mode option in the Mijia dashcam.
    2) You’ll can set the region in the MiHome app the first time you launch it. Or via MiHome app > Profile > Settings > Locale.

There is another app called Mi Dash Cam app which is in English.

      Robert · November 17, 2017 at 2:00 am

Thank you for the quick reply. On Gearbest’s site, it’s stated in at least 4 places that it has parking monitoring: in the title, in the specifications table, in the product description list and in a reply to a question asked by a user. Also if you do a dash cam research and you tick the parking monitoring feature the Mijia will show up in the results list. So can I request a RMA based on false advertisement? I bought (not yet received) this specific dash cam mainly for this feature. I do own a Viofo 119 v.1 and I’m very satisfied with it, but I wanted parking monitoring. What’s your opinion?

        Jeremy Wong · November 17, 2017 at 9:54 am

Usually, they just copy and paste the info they get. Not only in GearBest.

Viofo A119 have parking mode in the new firmware v3.3 but you’ll need to get a hardwire kit to get it to work.

In my opinion, I think the A119 is much better than the Mijia Dashcam.

          Robert · November 17, 2017 at 12:19 pm

I don’t think that should excuse them, and if the rep that told the user that it has parking mode is just stating a lie, then how can you trust any other thing that they write on the site?
Yes, I do my research before buying, but if you can’t relly on product description to make a purchase, then what? Thankfully there are users like you with some answers, but still, false advertisment it’s forbidden or if not, at least penalized in any civilized country.
And thank you very much for the bit of information about the firmware update for the Viofo. I updated it when i got it, almost a year ago, and used it as is. Hardwire kit I already have so after a succesfull flash I will be the happy owner with parking monitoring on my excellent Viofo A119.
Thank you for your time and keep up the good work.

          Jeremy Wong · November 17, 2017 at 12:27 pm

          Yeah. Understand.

Glad to have helped. And thank you.

Mark · December 1, 2017 at 9:58 am

Hi Jeremy! If you are going to choose from yi an d mijia dashcam, which one do you prefer? And why would you choose that? Thanks

    Jeremy Wong · December 1, 2017 at 5:33 pm

If it’s the Yi dashcam and Mijia dashcam. I would choose the Mijia dashcam as the specs are newer than the 2 years old Yi dashcam and Sony IMX323 in the Mijia.

But if it is the latest Yi Ultra dashcam (aka King Edition) and Mijia dashcam, maybe the Yi Ultra dashcam 🙂

Still thinking whether to do a comparison video between Mijia dashcam, Yi Ultra, SJ Dash and Viofo G1W-S.

Ahmet Y. · December 19, 2017 at 9:14 pm

Hi Jeremy. I ıse a 64GB sd card. It records perfect but when 39 GB of sd card is full then an error appears in the screen and stops recording. I have no idea what the error message says (Please see the link below). Doesn’t it overwrite the old files with new ones. I reset the sd card each time. Is there a permanent solution? Thanks.

Error message: https://ibb.co/eZ4yKm

    Jeremy Wong · December 20, 2017 at 4:04 pm

The error message said the format is not supported in the SD card. Please backup and format the SD card.

Could you try to format the SD card using the Mijia dashcam and try again? If not, do you have another SD card to test with?

Dirkzelf · December 29, 2017 at 7:28 pm

My Mijia freezes when card is getting filled up, loop video issue (V 1.0.11)?

Night recording starts bright, then goes dark, WHY?? Doesn’t have to be! Check my report here:

https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/threads/xiaomi-mijia-car-dvr-dashcam-mstar-msc8328p-sony-imx323-gearbest-com.28266/page-3#post-381626

    Dirkzelf · December 29, 2017 at 7:36 pm

I used 128GB U3 card, it formats all cards to FAT32 (not exFat), maybe that’s a problem for the Samsung 128 EVO U3? I now have a Kingston 64GB U3 card installed, will test it out soon.

      Jeremy Wong · December 29, 2017 at 7:39 pm

Usually it’s recommended to format the micro sd card using the dashcam.

        Dirkzelf · December 30, 2017 at 3:16 am

What IS the newest firmware? I use V1.0.11. I ALWAYS format the cards inside the camera.

    Jeremy Wong · December 29, 2017 at 7:43 pm

Later I’ll try test with the new firmware and see. Thinking of doing a comparison between the Mijia dashcam, Yi Ultra dashcam and SJ Dash.

      Dirkzelf · December 30, 2017 at 3:25 am

What I REALLY don’t like is the reserved space for emergency recordings….! If you have ANY relation/contact with the developers, PLEAE for the love of G@D, ask them to get rid of that USELESS reserved space and just give the emergency file a read-only mark, so the file will not get overwritten, and your full space can be used for ALL recordings. ALL OTHER DASHCAMS do it like this! Now I feel like having a 64GB card, and only 45GB usable, reallyshortsighted…!

        Jeremy Wong · December 30, 2017 at 9:25 am

Actually they are king of following Korean dashcam which also have such spaces.

          Dirkzelf · December 30, 2017 at 2:10 pm

I have many other dashcams and action cams, and the MIJIA is the only one doing it this way. I think it’s u logical, as well as undesirable.

          Dirkzelf · December 30, 2017 at 2:12 pm

You said something about the newest fw, which is the newest?

Swapnil · January 1, 2018 at 7:26 pm

I have recently bought this dashcam. However, its installation is incomplete and incorrect. I connected the cam to my mobile and the Mi cam app. I can see videos being shot on my phone, but I cannot save them. Also, the camera screen shows an exclamation mark and something written in Chinese. How do i get through? Or should I change the app?

    Jeremy Wong · January 2, 2018 at 9:48 am

Do you have a picture of the exclamation mark and the message in Chinese? I might be able to get it translated and see what is wrong.

KC · May 3, 2018 at 11:29 pm

Jeremy, thank you! This is really good stuff.

AVINASH tn · May 25, 2018 at 5:15 pm

I’m not able to find the root folder of sd card..

    Jeremy Wong · May 26, 2018 at 2:02 am

Can you open the microSD card using a computer? Should be able to see the root folder with all the folders inside.

Erez · June 24, 2018 at 7:00 pm

    Jeremy Wong · June 26, 2018 at 5:02 pm

Nor 'adilah · June 27, 2018 at 7:56 am

And how about the 4k king edition vs xiaomi mijia?

    Jeremy Wong · June 27, 2018 at 8:13 am

It’s Yi King Edition 2.7K aka Yi Ultra. Both is good. You can view my videos and see which you like better.

Calvin Tung · August 13, 2018 at 10:34 am

Thinking of Yi King Edition 2.7K or Xiaomi Mijia.., but both are 2017 technology.
Any recommended branding from 2018 product ?
Thanks for the review.

    Jeremy Wong · August 13, 2018 at 10:42 am

Latest is rear view mirror type dashcam from Mijia and Yi…

HI, can i get the solution for data and time issue, each and every time when switch on the camera, current data and time will change to default date and time, anybody face this issue ? and there is any solution for this issue, i didnt find any slot for battery

    Jeremy Wong · September 2, 2018 at 10:06 pm

How long you got the Mijia dashcam? The battery is actually soldered onto the board inside. Currently haven’t encountered this issue yet with the date and time. Maybe can a factory reset and setup everything again?

      Madhu · September 2, 2018 at 10:22 pm

More than 6 month i am using Mijia dash cam. I update the firmware for english. Let me do factory rest and i will update

        Madhu · September 2, 2018 at 10:47 pm

Hi. As you suggest i did factory reset and did all setup againg. But after that also repeting same issue.

Madhu · September 5, 2018 at 1:50 pm

Hi, anybody find any solution for date issue, as Mr.Jeremy suggest, I did the factory reset and new setup, but still the issue remain. since I buy this devise I am facing this issue,

    Jeremy Wong · September 5, 2018 at 1:56 pm

Think best to ask in dashcam forums as more users there 🙂

KCO · September 11, 2018 at 11:47 am

I was very excited but the XMCDB discount code says that it does not exist in GearBest do you have another one ? then it would be good combination Mijia in front and 70mai back

    Jeremy Wong · September 12, 2018 at 11:44 am

Think it’s expired or fully claimed…

Sreejith · September 30, 2018 at 1:48 am

Dear
pls help me to upgrade my mi dash cam Chinese to english.

It is new version 1.0.13 chinese

    Jeremy Wong · September 30, 2018 at 4:30 am

    English firmware v1.0.13.En
Please use the Mi Dash Cam app to update your Mijia dashcam with 1.0.13.En which is in English and Chinese. Mi Home will update 1.0.13 which is in Chinese only.

Also, you can’t update using the Mi Dash Cam app after updated using the Mi Home app as it will detect that it is the latest firmware.

The only way is to manual flash update the firmware.

    Download 1.0.13.En from my Dropbox.
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/373k4i57tn6rwkl/1.0.13en.rar?dl=0

Unzip the file > copy the SD_CarDV.bin file to the microSD card root folder > insert to the Mijia dashcam > power on and wait for it to update > will auto reboot into English interface.

Hi JW. Do you know where I can repair the LCD screen display for this model? Thank you.

    Jeremy Wong · December 29, 2018 at 6:00 pm

Not sure if there a place in KL to repair it. Maybe can order the screen from taobao and DIY maybe?

nathan · January 7, 2019 at 11:39 pm

    Jeremy Wong · January 8, 2019 at 12:37 am

I don’t think so as the 1S have different hardware

Jay · February 26, 2020 at 5:47 pm
